Blood Oxygen Monitor: Applicable Populations and Classifications

Blood oximeter, through detectors or sensors, can monitor the oxygen content in the blood in real time without the need for blood sampling. It is a small medical device that measures indicators such as blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, and perfusion index.

Working principle of blood oximeter

The principle of the blood oximeter is based on the absorption spectral characteristics of reduced hemoglobin and oxygenated hemoglobin in the red and near-infrared regions, using the Lambert-Beer law to establish a data processing empirical formula. The working principle of the instrument uses the combination of photoelectric blood oxygen detection technology and volume pulse scanning technology. Two beams of light with different wavelengths shine on the fingernail tip of the human body through a perspective clip-on sensor to obtain measurement signals by photosensitive devices. The obtained information is processed by electronic circuits and microprocessors and displayed by two sets of LEDs.

Applicable population for blood oximeter

People with cardiovascular diseases

Such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and cerebral thrombosis. The blood of these patients may become viscous and accompanied by coronary atherosclerosis and narrow vascular lumen. Patients may face ischemia and hypoxia at any time. Therefore, using blood oxygen meter can help patients measure their blood oxygen and pulse changes, so that they can receive timely treatment when blood oxygen fluctuations occur.

People with respiratory system diseases

Such as asthma, tracheitis, chronic bronchitis, pulmonary heart disease, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. When patients have respiratory system diseases, they may have difficulty breathing and hypoxia, causing damage to important organs such as the heart and brain. Medical blood oximeter can monitor the blood oxygen saturation of patients, thus reducing the incidence of severe respiratory diseases.

Physiological aging population of the heart and lungs

For example, patients with physiological aging of the heart and lungs may have insufficient blood perfusion, resulting in hypoxia symptoms. Through blood oximeter, the perfusion index can be monitored in time to avoid insufficient blood oxygen.

Types of blood oximeters

Desktop multi-parameter monitor

In hospitals, you can often see monitors that display various graphs and numbers next to patients, which are multi-parameter monitors. They are equipped with pulse oximeters, which can simultaneously measure and display patients' blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, body temperature, and other information.

Handheld pulse oximeter

As a professional blood oximeter factory, Alltrusted provides high-quality and portable pulse oximeter which is convenient for medical staff to inspect wards and carry with them when the patient's condition changes suddenly, or temporarily installed next to the bed to continuously monitor the patient's blood oxygen saturation.

Wrist oximeter

Suitable for patients in the hospital ward to wear, convenient for medical staff to check patient information at any time, and patients can also see real-time measurement values to seek medical help in a timely manner.

Fingertip pulse oximeter

Only used for spot measurement (not continuous measurement, measuring values at specific moments), focusing more on miniaturization. Suitable for home daily use, one-piece fingertip pulse oximeter, also known as finger clip pulse oximeter.
